Rebuilding and moving on after the pandemic

Rebuilding and moving on after the pandemic

The past year has been a rollercoaster for every single South African. The challenges faced by the nation have shed new light on life and the nature of work. While many businesses found themselves under extreme pressure during 2020, others managed to keep their heads above water thanks to the incredible support shown by loyal customers, partners and the government, in some instances.

No matter how your business fared during the pandemic, every company will face a new era of possibilities. In the wake of Covid-19, a new way of doing business can emerge and working life for many South Africans is likely to change. It is time to move on and rebuild businesses, the economy and South Africa. We need to work together and continue to support one another as this is what will make South Africa stronger than before.

IWESCO was fortunate enough to stay incredibly busy during the lockdown. As a certified essential service, our cleaning and disinfection teams were on-call 24-hours a day, around the country. The support given to us by clients is what kept us going, and for that we are incredibly grateful. We have been able to build a good foundation for the future, as a result.

Going forwards after the pandemic

South Africa’s first priority should be to rebuild jobs and create employment for those who lost their careers as a result of the global pandemic. It is not only up to local and national governments to create jobs, but also businesses that survived the lockdown. We all need to come together to play our part in re-employing South Africans who lost their source of income amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

IWESCO has managed to create new job opportunities in three provinces; we have opened new offices in KwaZulu-Natal, the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape. Our new premises in Durban, the Transkei, Port Elizabeth and Mossel Bay have allowed us to employ and train more South Africans in the cleaning, waste control and environmental industries.

Notwithstanding the impossible challenges that we faced during 2020, IWESCO has grown its core business by nine percent. This results in more possibilities to create jobs around the country and keep South Africa clean. We continue to work around the clock, providing sanitisation and disinfection services in cities, towns and remote areas.

A new way of living

Covid-19 has thrust hygiene into the spotlight. Washing hands and staying sanitised has become more important than ever before. These new hygiene standards have become the new norm and sanitisation should be a regular exercise, whether you are vaccinated or not. Not only do we need to keep our hands and bodies disinfected, but we also need to sanitise our homes, offices and shops.

IWESCO has been providing expert disinfection services throughout the lockdown. All of our staff members are highly-trained and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while they work. Our fogging services have been highly requested around the country in order to disinfect large spaces and commercial properties.

Many South Africans who have been lucky enough to keep their jobs have now adjusted to working from home. Remote working is also a new norm and many businesses have found that they can continue to function when their employees are able to work online from the comfort and safety of their homes.

All of these new changes will allow South Africa to build solid foundations for the future. Moving on from the global pandemic will take a bit of time, but now is the time to work together and focus on the future. IWESCO will be on-hand to help businesses with their disinfection and sanitisation needs as they reopen their doors once again.
